Five top events venues in Peterborough

Ferry Meadows Bar Kitchen

Peterborough is a fantastic place to hold an event and there are plenty of great venues within the city limits. We’ve worked at most of them over the years, so here are five of our favourites, in no particular order…

Holiday Inn Peterborough West

Some people knock chain hotels as being a bit bland, but we couldn’t disagree more.

Venues like the Holiday Inn have been designed specifically for hosting events of all sizes. The large Buckingham Suite caters for up to 400 but there are also a bunch of smaller rooms which can be divided up and specified to just the right size for your event.

What we love about these types of venue is that they give you a perfect canvas with which to create the event of your dreams. While historic old venues may be very grand, you’ll often be limited by the architecture. The Holiday Inn you can dress the rooms up beautifully and get lost in the theme of your event.

Situated at the quiet Thorpe Wood area, on the edge of the city, the hotel has 133 rooms, so it’s perfect for large functions, such as conferences and award ceremonies.

There are two things we particularly like about this particular venue. Firstly, there’s the Grand Foyer area. This is adjacent to the main suite and used as the private bar area for events. It’s a bit quieter than the party rooms and provides a nice space for additional attractions such as a photo booth or casino tables. We also like the fact that we’ve always had really positive experiences working here, with really friendly and professional staff.

In fact the only thing we’re curious about is the name. Officially this venue is listed as the Holiday Inn Peterborough West. We’re still searching for Holiday Inn Peterborough North, South, East or Central…

Lakeside Kitchen and Bar

Ferry Meadows is one of Peterborough’s real jewels, a fabulous country park that’s just minutes from the city centre, and in there lies one of our favourite private hire venues in the area.

By day, Lakeside Kitchen and Bar is a wonderful café serving locally sourced fare but at night it’s available for hire and an awesome choice for weddings and corporate parties.

The view across the lake is stunning, while Raj and his team are wonderful hosts. It’s a brilliant size and layout too, with a great space for the DJ and dancefloor area, and good areas to host other attractions as part of the evening’s entertainment.

The Bull Hotel

There are plenty of four star hotels within Peterborough, but few actually within walking distance of the railway station.

The Bull, however, fits the bill and combines the character that you’d expect from a hotel that’s a listed building with the practicality of a more modern hotel.

Part of the reason for that is the fact that the Bull has a modern and purpose built conference centre adjacent to the main hotel. There are a total of 14 meeting rooms, with the largest able to accommodate up to 250 guests, making it a popular wedding venue

Fancy a bit of a lively night out? This venue, on Northminster Road, might be right up your street.

It’s in the middle of town and part of a nightclub complex, making it a brilliant choice for Christmas and office parties. With a big stage up top, it’s a good choice if you want a live band – and it doesn’t have to be raucous. It’s your party, your way.

Probably the only downside is that the venue is upstairs, which may be a problem if some of your guests have mobility problems, but otherwise it’s well worth consideration for a wide variety of events.

See Radius’ website for more information.

ABAX Stadium

Peterborough United are flying high in League One this season and their London Road stadium is also a fantastic venue for a wide range of events.

Situated in the upper floor of the main stand, you don’t have to be a football fan to enjoy this venue. It’s a popular choice in the city, and the fact that The Posh is a real community club means that, in a round about way, it’s a venue that’s putting something back into the local area. See their website for more.
