Being based in Cambridgeshire, we’ve been lucky to work at a number of May Balls – which are held by the various colleges in Cambridge each June.
Yep, you heard right, the May Balls are usually held in June, but then the balls held in the university city of Cambridge are anything but ordinary, they are very, very special indeed.
We didn’t know quite how special the Cambridge balls were until we first worked at one. They are huge and glamorous affairs with a wide range of attractions, including magicians, fairground rides, extravagant firework displays, artists, photobooths and even midnight massages. They’re luxurious events, with guests dressed up in fine ball gowns and black tie, and the entertainment is of the highest calibre. Indeed live music often comes from chart topping international acts. In the past we’ve worked at May Balls headlined by The Hoosiers and Scouting for Girls, and a fun casino night is a fairly common attraction at Cambridge’s May Balls – with some high value prizes on offer.
Organisers’ budgets for these events is reportedly in six figures and although some colleges hold balls every year, for others it is a biennial affair. Ticket prices are usually in the hundreds of pounds, quite a stretch for cash strapped students, but for that they’ll get one of the most memorable experiences of their lives.
